1938 letter to Josepf Rappoport

This is a letter from the Chevrah Torah Synagogue to Josepf Rappoport is dated August 24th, 1938.

The letter raises several questions about places and adresses that either have changed name, or do not exist anymore

The street adress "Lange Russbrug Straat" does not exist today. Either the street name has changed, or there is a spelling mistake in this name. Also I did not find any Synagogue on Highway, London.

Note that the name Rappoport may have also been misspelled from Rappaport, Rapaport or Rapoport.

  1. "Lange Russbrug Straat" most probably refers to Lange Van Ruusbroecstraat, a street close to the Centraal Station. I lived in Antwerp during 10 years but I guess a lot of people from Antwerp will easily recognise the pictures on your (interesting blog). Did you receive any reactions ? You should also contact the Red Star Line Museum. This museum collects (migration) histories from people who came to Antwerp from Central- and Eastern Europe (and moved to the USA afterwards). Contact me if you need to get in touch : s.vandewoestijne@scarlet.be. Kind regards, Steven

  2. Steven, many thanks for your comment.
Indeed I am sure you pointed out the right street name. Again a new piece to the puzzle ! The RedStar museum certainly is on my to-do list to complement my research, as well as the Dossin Kazern in Mechelen.
tae care and best wishes 2014
