Adress of Eisik and Sura family before deportation

Here two letters from the Ministry of Health and Family , both dated from March 6th, 1954.

The documents state taht Jozef and Sina "have probably died" (sic.)between september 10th and 22nd 1942. The letter does not mention any possible place of death.

Interstingly these documents mention the last residential adress : Lange Kievitstraat, 71. The house still exists. Here is the Google Streetview link.

Antwerpen, Jodenregister

This document dates 16-01-1943 is issued by the Antwerp administration, civil status department.

It sole purpose is that it testifies that my grandmother is not registered in the jewish registry. The adress is "Lange Kieveit n°101" which is the same adress found on the letter from Josef send from the Dossin Casern.

Coal deliveries in 1942

In this post I made some speculations about gas consumption of Eisik and Sura's family. Looking at the more or less constant gas consumption I deducted that coal was being used for heating only.

I was right.

I found this document which lists coal (Anthracite) deliveries from december 1941 till July 1942.The provider is Jean Meeus, Korte Klarenstraat 15 in Antwerpen. This silly coal delivery control card is a testimony of how everything ended for this family in August 1942.

Interesting piece of information is that it specifies that the family is made up of (vijf) five people; Eisic, his wife Sura and three children; Jozef, Sinna and Regina. Their other son, Avram (my grand-father), at that time lived separate. To be verified is whether he was living in n°101 of the same street (Lange Kievitstraat) which is the adress Jozef used in his letter from Dossin Kazern.

1942 Payments record to Antwerp Gas Company

This simple document is the monthly payment scheme form of the Antwerp Gas Company (Antwerpsche Gasmaatschappij) for the year 1942. It refers to the gas consumption of "Kahan 71 Lange Kievit". The Lange Kievitstraat is a recurring street name in these files.

The payment scheme is documented from January till August 5th 1942. We know that there were 3 razzias in Antwerp in 1942 on August 15th and 16th, and on September 11th.

The empty lines on this document are the exponent of the annihilation of a family.

The fact of going and paying your gas bills like any other citizen and being deported just two or six weeks later (I do not have yet the exact date of Eisik, Sura and children's deportation). What a system has admitted this ?

This may be a detail, but one thing struck me. If we compare m³ consumption (3rd column) we see for instance : December  52m³, January 36 m³, February 36 m³... June 60m³, July and August 40.
I would have expected the winter months to be sensibly higher in consumption if it was for heating purposes. Here in fact the consumption is rather stable so I deduct that heating was done with coal (as in many houses at that time) and that gas was just used for cooking.
